Ethan Shirley and Greg Ewing have touched base in the Pantanal, the majority of the rest of us depart on May 7th, a short week away! Before the craziness begins, here is what we aim to accomplish:
- Matriculate all students in PCER's school through the Secretary of Education in Poconé, and start classes in July after schools have their major holidays.
- Lead workshops on the importance clean water and how to build, operate, and maintain biosand water filters at four rural public schools in the municipality of Poconé. Check out the Water Systems Team's Blog for the latest!
- Construct a solar-powered water and internet tower for PCER, and a supply and filtration tower at the Jaguar Ecological Reserve (JER). E-MAGINE, a U-M student organization, has designed a cellular-based internet system that we will mount on top of the water tower.
- Lay the groundwork for a tele-medicine clinic at PCER connected to Brazil's federal university hospital system with E-MAGINE's internet system.
We look forward to updating you from there! Tchau!
