The biodigester has been planned out in the back lot, and today, 6/12, concrete was poured and bricks laid to lay the framework for the system. The team hopes to have it assembled as quickly as possible so that we can start producing and testing the biogas.
The kitchen is looking better and better each day, and the meals are slowly diverging from rice & beans. Tonight, Cassie prepared the Japanese version of pizza - a hearty sautéed cabbage pancake - and Ethan accompanied it with a soy sauce concoction. And after dinner, our bowls were set in our customized PVC drying rack - we may be marketing our artisanal trade when we return to Ann Arbor in the fall.
The pedreiros (portuguese for mason), Klovis and Marcelo, were hard at work while we were away and put a mortar covering on all of the walls, and over this weekend assembled the door frames. It looks like tomorrow we will have doors! Klovis believes that everything - now just the floor and wall finishings - will be complete in just over a week.
