I'm in town again after a brief period in the Pantanal and after 5 sleepless nights of Carnaval when the whole town shut down and piled into the plaza from 9:00 at night until 7:00 in the morning (and then slept away the entire day).  I apologize for the lack of posts of late.

On Friday, I had the good fortune of finding, to my utter surprise, a person working in the office of the Secretary of Education of Mato Grosso (SEDUC).  The previous three times I attempted to find the workers there, no one was in sight.  This time, though, she was extremely excited to see me and immediately pulled out a calendar and marked the 29th of March in red ink (the day that I will accompany her to the school and then to Porto Jofre to enroll some kids).

So March 29th should be the end of the first part of the struggle to get things started...

However, we still may be missing support for free transportation for the kids.  I am currently working on a cheap resolution to the transportation problem, and will discuss it further with SEDUC tomorrow.

A tourist who was in the area took a picture of me standing at the field station we are set to renovate with a rusty metal sign that in years past pointed the way down the road to the field station...

Pictures of the completed school building (including bathrooms with toilets and sinks, 2 solar panels, and everything all clean and pretty) are coming probably next weekend or early next week.
